Slower train Lyon to Paris?
 

Other than perhaps the price, is there any reason to consider the slower trains from Lyon to Paris, rather than the high speed TGVs? It's 5 hours vs. 2 hours. Thanks.

What is your time frame?

If you are only looking at last minutes or near future departure, it is correct. TER prices seems to be fixed at 65.60EU wether it is last minutes or far in the future. TGV prices seemed to be 72-97EU while OUIGO is 45EU.

For future departures, it is reversed. For example, for 10/29, according to oui.sncf.com, TGV prices are mostly 38EU while OUIGO prices are 19EU. TER prices remain 65.60EU.

You're going to see more of France by taking the slower trains.

The high-speed track cuts across the landscape like a knife, the views are often obscured and the high speed of the train blurs the views.

The slower trains meander along river valleys, stopping at small towns and you get to see the landscape at a normal speed.

The best way to enjoy this trip is to make a day of it and stop at a couple of nice towns(for example Beaune, Dijon, Montbard, Tonnerre) between Lyon and Paris. Slow travel rulez!
