Slow travel, flight free travel company
There is an interesting article in the Guardian today promoting a company Byway Travel which specialises in individual trips using trains boats and buses.
It sounds like a great idea to me. Anyway you can read the article here It may be of interest to those of you who do not want to hire a car and who want to limit there flying after getting to Europe. UK, Parts of France and Italy only at this time. |
Great idea, I certainly like taking ferries and trains and find aircraft horrid, noisy and airports far from where I want to be.

thanks for posting that, Hets. I had a look at their itineraries for Cornwall, just to see what they were proposing, and apart from the rather novel suggestion that people stay in St Austell i thought that their recommendations were pretty good. The prices also struck me as very reasonable considering holiday prices generally and the level of flexibility and support they apparently offer.
Bilbo - I agree with you about preferring trains etc and at the moment I think that they enable the traveller to maintain far greater control over his/her environment compared to the "cattle market" atmosphere of some airports. This is pretty encouraging too: https://www.theguardian.com/world/20...ilway-stations |
Thanks for the link. That's my kind of travel, usually by train, but having someone sort out bus connections might be handy. BTW, Intrepid has always traveled that way, and I believe Saga as well (my UK-based elder sister uses Saga, and always seems to be taking off for Europe by coach).
If you're interested in UK train stations, have you seen this? http://allthestations.co.uk/ |
I hadn't seen that, thursdaysd. What a fun project. i must have a closer look when I've got time.
