Slow-moving luxury train & golf

The Transcantabrico Golf is a slow-moving luxury train for sight-seeing and playing golf during seven days and six nights along northern Spain.
Services:
 * Accommodations in a suite compartment on board the train.
* Dinners and lunches featuring typical regional cuisine (including wines, coffee and liqueurs). These meals will be in restaurants selected in advance for their time-tested quality.
 * Breakfast buffet.
 * Music and parties in the Nightclub Car
 * Programmed trips, including admission to museums, cathedrals, cloisters, and other sights
 * Green fees in Bilbao, Santander and Gijón
 * Luxury tour bus that accompanies the train.
 * Daily newspapers and magazines.
 * Security service.
 * Multilingual guide for the entire trip.
 * Top-notch staff at your disposal..
 * Transportation and cleaning for your golf clubs.
The four club cars are the train’s most amazing—and most beautiful—feature. They are genuine gems of railway craftsmanship whose outer design, quality of finish and interior decoration are truly admirable.
One of the four club cars has a bar and dance floor. That’s the nightclub car, decorated and lit like a mini-bistro, where there is entertainment every night.
There is a second bar in another of the club cars, where you can nurse a quiet drink.
The other two club cars are for different types of leisure activities, like reading, sharing a board game with fellow travelers, enjoying a chat and gazing at the passing scenery through the huge windows.
Travelers have at their disposal the daily papers, magazines, a fine selection of books from the library, television, a video library—in short, everything they need to make their trip a real pleasure.
In each suite on the Transcantábrico, passengers have an especially designed hideaway for their rest and privacy. Travelers can sleep in perfect comfort with the train standing still at the station.
Suites have double beds. Some also have the option of a separate upper bunk. All suits come equipped with a suitcase rack, minibar, safe, closet, desk and telephone with an outside line. They have private bathrooms with hydrosauna, turbomassage and steam-bath facilities, plus a hairdryer. The air conditioning, heating, in-suite music and lights all have individual regulators.

I looked into this briefly before making a trip to Northern Spain a few years ago. But I prefer to actually sleep on a moving train...

Thanks for posting...

In all of Revulgo's report I didn't see a reference to FEVE (Ferrocaril Español de Via Estrecha) that runs the TransCantabrico. Http://www.FEVE.es
During the Summer they run several luxury trips across northern Spain to Ferrol, connecting there with a MotorCoach to Santiago.

I believe FEVE originates in Léon and comes up to Bilbao to begin its westward journey. So San Sebastian is not on its route.

Speaking of Golf: Santander, where Seve Ballesteros comes from, is where Spain's first Public Golf Course was located (actually west of the City, out past UIMP).

Price in '07: 2,300€ p.p. double occupancy with all meals.

Revulgo,
I hope you are able to make this journey upon your retirement and that you'll come back and tell us all about this new itinerary and the golfing.

Thanks for making us aware of their luxury trip for golfers.
