Slightly Risque, I Apologize in Advance

Ok, so I am totally addicted to the show "What not to wear" on BBC.....and when they are shopping for lingerie or proper undergarments (as they like to say), they go into plush Lingerie stores that have fitting rooms that close with drapes, and not doors as many of the ones here have.

I went on-line and saw a listing of some good lingerie stores, but their prices weren't listed.

Does anyone here have a fave lingerie store in London? And if it is your fave, do you think the quality is a lot better than what you can get in the states?

degas Apr 19th, 2006 07:39 AM

I certainly do, but my wife threw the address away in a jealous rage

Hey, its not my fault that I wear a much smaller size and have grear flair with kinky colors.

Right next to Harrods (side entrance, where they sell tights, scarves); the queens corset and bra makers. I used to go there often; great fitting bras. If only I can think of the name. It will come back to me shortly.

Rigby & Peller!
If you want a fitting, go early. Or make an appointment.

laclaire Apr 19th, 2006 07:48 AM

I am pretty sure that you can get this stuff in New York, but there is a store called La Perla that has the prettiest lingerie hands down. Beautiful bras, delicate thongs, and the prettiest night sets I have ever seen. I can't speak for the staff in London, but in Barcelona the fittings are great and you look beautiful when done.

I'm still laughing, Degas!

degas Apr 19th, 2006 08:04 AM

Maire, you'd really be howling if you saw me in my latest ultra sleek size 22 mint green thong!

Scarlett Apr 19th, 2006 08:11 AM

No no! not the green thong :O

If you were going to Paris, I would say Sabia Rose..sigh.

Here is what Google found for me..nice site. :)

believe you me there is nothing fun about having a curtain instead of a door. they always gap so everyone can glimpse you in your altogether.

Christina Apr 19th, 2006 08:59 AM

I was wondering why someone thought curtains were such a great idea myself. I prefer doors.

You can buy Perla in any decent-sized city in the US. Of course it costs a fortune, but I sure wouldn't go to London to buy it.

"I was wondering why someone thought curtains were such a great idea"

It is a guy thing. Have you not noticed all those shifty-looking guys who stand right outside the dressing room area pretending to be bored and only waiting for thier wifes or girlfriends?

Budman Apr 19th, 2006 09:20 AM

degas, don't give away our little secrets. :-) ((b))

I believe that Agent Provocateur is the place to go...

They certainly have some beautiful things!

Neopolitan Apr 19th, 2006 09:43 AM

My only comment is that for a post with a "Risque" warning which of course makes us all jump to click the mouse, I'm rather disappointed.

Tulips Apr 19th, 2006 09:47 AM

Ah! Agent Provocateur. Quite a different kind of lingerie than the sort offered by Rigby & Peller. It's owned by Vivienne Westwood's son.

But I do wish we had Victoria's Secret here.

sandi_travelnut Apr 19th, 2006 10:03 AM

I'm still waiting for the racey part.

xaroula Apr 19th, 2006 10:08 AM

Don't know for sure that they have stores in London, but I've spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars at Intimissimi stores in Italy, Greece, and Cyprus. I love it, it is excellent quality, and is so beautiful, especially the lace.

nytraveler Apr 19th, 2006 10:12 AM

Well - I would hardly call a discussion of lingerie risque.

But for those addicted to european styles - or something a little more pretty/lacy than jockey basics - www.barenecessities.com. They have a great selection of US and european styles including some very luxe things, good prices, and sales on the basics at the same time all the department stores do (plus you get your 1 free with 2 on the spot and can pick whatever color you like instead of waiting 6 weeks and getting only white).

nycjenny Apr 19th, 2006 10:22 AM

Well if you want risque...go ahead and take a peek at the Agent Provocateur website...

They have done a line for Mark & Spencer as well now that is a bit more affordable if that's a concern. I have no idea how the quality is though.

nytraveler Apr 19th, 2006 10:28 AM

This looks more like the victoria's secret stuff - but is quite a bit more. Is the quality much better (I've found the VS stuff not bad for moderate pricing) or is it just the difference between the dollar and the pound?
