flanner - we're all just trying to help.
Those of us from the US are not familiar with the way things work in Europe. If I lost my meds I would not think of going to a hospital since in the US my insurance may not cover the ER doctor or the hospital. In fact, my insurance would cover nothing in a hospital unless I get preapproval. So it would cost me hundreds of dollars to go to a hospital for new meds. And then the doctor would probably require testing to ensure the meds were the correct ones. Plus the hours of waiting in the ER as a non-emergency patient. So in the US it's easier to find a doctor in private practice or a clinic to get a new prescription. The very easiest way here is to have someone fed ex the meds. But things are different elsewhere in the world and this requires a different and more experienced way of thinking. All of us are working with our familiar routines. And no one is doubting the high quality of Italian health care. |
Padraig - looks like we said essentially the same thing but our posts crossed. Thank you for supporting those of us who don't have the correct solution but tried to help.
In the US you might be concerned about the cost of health care but not the quality of it. Doctors here are so afraid of being sued for malpractice they over test and biopsy everything to ensure the correct diagnosis. |
And what a waste of resources that is, Adrienne, wouldn't you say?
|
Afterall - I would absolutely agree. Plus I'm sure we have wonderful people who would become doctors but do not because of the high cost of malpractice insurance.

Wow, what a discussion! Re: the issue of post I finally found a Farmacia that will accept a fax of prescription from the US. Not all of them will. It's like Zeppole said, if you ask enough different people you can get what you need eventually. This particular one is Farmacia del Moro located @ Piazza S. Giovanoi 20 R in case anyone in future turns out to be as air-headed as me. Thanks again for all the suggestions.

Glad it's all working out OK for you. Now you can relax and enjoy your time in Italy.
