Sleep over night at Nice airport?

I have a room reserved at Novotel across from airport since our flight is at 7a.m. But I am having a hard time wanting to pay $185 for just a few hours of being there. I have heard of people sleeping at airports when they travel to save money. Anyone know if the Nice airport allows that? And if it is safe enough?

I'm pretty sure they will not allow it. Not unless you are already in the departure lounge waiting for a connection. Where are you coming from prior to getting to the airport? There are cheaper hotels; maybe the Ibis or Campanile?

I think it is more the matter of whether the airport security enforces the rule. You can always doze off on those uncomfortable airport benches seemingly designed to make sleeping impossible. I think you are already staying in Nice two nights before? How about staying one more night at your existing Nice accommodation? You will gain more time by not having to do one more check-out/check-in cycle. The difference in time to wake up between a Nice hotel and the airport hotel is perhaps about 20 minutes.

I would stay in Nice itself even for a 6am flight unless I am arriving in Nice from somewhere the night before at 10pm.

The airport hotels are less expensive than those in town. Go for it and book a room.

Also, it is not necessarily true that in town airports are cheaper than one out at the airport. The one I stay at in Nice is certainly very much cheaper than the quoted rate for the Novotel. Plus the airport is really very close to town. You need to do more research on hotel rates.

I was going to say the same thing, often you can find something cheaper in the city than at an airport. Maybe the exact same hotel chain and brand that might not be true (but often is, it seems to me), but certainly there is more in Nice than Novotel. However, I don't understand the $185 which is USD, I presume, as the rate would have to be in euro. In euro, that isn't really that high, it is a moderate hotel, about 134 euro. Of course you can find something cheaper in town, though, and if the comparison is sleeping on the floor or bench in an airport (seriously?), that shouldn't be hard to find. But with a 7 am flight and avoiding transportation issues, I'd probably stay at the airport, also, but there are cheaper airport hotels than Novotel, such as Campanile. There is an Ibis there, also, and it would be cheaper than NOvotel.

I've stayed at the Park Inn by Radisson Nice airport, they have rates starting at under EUR100 but that depends on the date you want. There is an Ibis on Promenade des Anglais which is only 1km from the airport which has inexpensive rates, depending of course on when you want to stay. I agree, more research is needed on hotel rates and the proximity of alot of hotels to the airport & town.

I partied as long as I could, took a cab to the airport and arrived at 4:45 for a 6:30 flight once. The airport in question was Madrid, but it worked great.

'Course I was 27 then.

Slept like a babe on the plane. Least crappy cattle-class flights I've had.
