Hi K,

The castle is at the top of a hill.
If you take the horse carriage, there is a very steep grade that you have to walk from where they drop you off.
The tour in the Castle takes you up and down a couple of hundred stairs, or more.
You can take the bus up to the bridge above the castle, if you don't mind heights.

OK. I know is a year later but I am having this same issue. Going to be staying in Salzburg (will have a car but can leave it in Salz and train if needed) and flying out of Munich. We want to fit in the Bavaria area and are trying to figure out how to do it. Are thinking we could drive to either Fussen or Ruette and stay one night and then train to Munich the next am...see Munich, stay a night and then leave for USA the next morning.
So now my question, if we drive to Bavaria area (please recommend the best city to stay in if going to train or drive to Munich...heard drive to Munich is really pretty?) and stay one night, what can we fit in that one day? We are more into scenery...would love to fit in a bike ride somewhere...and not too much into actually going into the castles unless there is time. Would rather see the natural beauty of the area and outside of the castles.
