Skye to Edinburgh
Recognizing it's a LOOONG drive, we're planning on the following route back to Edinburgh from Portree:
- A87 to Invergarry - A82 to Spean Bridge - A86 towards Newtonmore - A889 to Dalwhinnie - A9 to Perth Any must-sees or favorite stops along this route? Great lunch spots and/or cafes for coffee/tea/snack breaks? Plockton looks beautiful--should we detour for a visit before getting into the bulk of our road trip? We're driving through the Loch Lomond area, staying a night and hiking in Glencoe, then taking the ferry to Skye on the front end of the trip. Hence the different route back ... but open to other ideas as well. Thanks for your insight! |
The main sites (after Spean Bridge) would be Dalwhinnie distillery (but only if you haven't toured another distillery elsewhere on the trip) and Blair Atholl/Blair Castle
The restaurant at the castle is casual/self serve but has pretty good food. Or the pub in the Atholl Arms Hotel. |
Thank you!

Does anyone have thoughts on whether or not we should add Plockton as a brief stop in route back to Edinburgh from Portree?

Scone Palace - it's in Perth.

Up to you -- it is a pretty setting and it is always 'fun' to take a photo of the palm trees. I'd play it by ear -- if you get an early start and the weather isn't nasty, sure.
