Skocjan/Postojna Caves or Grotto Gigante?

Which of these three caves is the most impressive?

RAR - I haven't been to both - but I was extremely impressed and delighted with Postojna. Certainly the best I've ever seen.

Hope someone else can compare them for you.

Hi,

We haven't been to Skocjan/Postojna yet, but have been to the Grotto Gigante.

It really blew us away!!

If you have checked the web site (which in no way does it justice) and done some reading, you know that the cave is so large St. Peter's Basilica would fit inside it.

It is unique in that you don't enter a "tunnel". After buying your ticket at a small kiosk, the guide walks you across the treed lawn area, and opens a gated plate in the ground. You walk down about twenty metal steps, and you are at the roofline of the most immense cavern we have ever seen.

It is one of those "Oh My Gosh!" experiences.

Because the cavern is so immense, you have a long walk down to the base; and, of course, a long walk back up on the opposite side of the cavern.(The guide takes a slow pace on the upward walk, and allows for many "breathers" for we older folk.)

There are English Language audio speakers at each of the stopping points along the route down, and then, across the base and back up the opposite side. Our guide had good English skills, and was able to answer most of our supplemental questions about the cavern.

The tour lasted about one hour, if memory serves me correctly.

It is only a short ride (20 minutes) for the Grotto to the palace of Maximillian and Carlotta, which is on the Adriatic Coast north of Trieste.

The grotto and palace combined make a good day-trip option. (The palace--but even more so the gardens---are quite lovely.)

Go, you won't be disappointed!

Why not do both caves,if you have the time ?? They apparently are very differnt from each other.

I probably will be doing 2 of the three, so I guess I can report back with my preference :)
