Skip a City?

Current Plan:
2 nights Innsbruck(arrive late afternoon)
1 night Salzburg
2 nights Vienna
2 nights Prague (fly home 3rd day)

Train reservations have not been made yet. Hotels not finalized. Should we just skip Salzburg? We have to go through by train anyway.

One other thing. We already have train tickets with seat reservations from Munich to Innsbruck. What if we decide to take the earlier train? Will the ticket be good? I'm sure we would have to pay extra to reserve a seat on the earlier train if we decide we want them.

I would reverse the # nights in Innsbruck and Salzburg, or skip Innsbruck altogether and add a night in Vienna or Prague.

I'm leaving my daughter in Innsbruck for the rest of the summer, so I really don't want to skip it. I will enjoy seeing where she will be.

i think you can do it all. i have been to vienna, salzburg and prague and if i didnīt think i could come back in the near future, would also try to have even a short stay at all of them.
they are so close it is tempting.

I would definitely skip one - you're too rushed. If you can;t skip Innsbruck, skip Salzburg. Vienna and Prague are each worth at least 3/4 days.

A shame to cut back here - these are all good destinations that have a lot to offer you. To me, Vienna cries out for another night. Have a great trip.

I really loved Salzburg but have never been to Innsbruck so don't know if I could recommend skipping it. One night will give you a good taste.

I'd say this is a doable, but busy, trip. I'm just getting too creeky (or old!) to move every night or two. My personal minimum is four, but will compromise with hubby when he begs.

Hi a,

Considering your requirements, your itinerary is fine.

Your ticket is good for any train. Your reservation is not.

Thanks for the input! On a previous trip, we have toured with a busy schedule. The difference was that we went with a tour group and everything was taken care of. I will next began to look for tour guides in the individual cities. I think I will try to reserve a seat on an earlier train out of Munich and possibly spend only one night in Innsbruck with a late train out the next day. I would like to make all of my train and tour reservations before I leave. I won't have extra time to deal with all of that once I'm there. Although the idea of being able to change the time of the train trip does appeal to me.

That IS lots of train time - as others have suggested Innsbruck is the obvious place to 'skip'. I'm curious as to how you are getting to Innsbruck ? Where are you flying into ? At the very minimum skip Salzburg.

amberkat Jun 17th, 2007 09:06 AM

We are arriving in Innsbruck by train from Munich. I have seats reserved for a midafternoon train, but I may switch to an earlier train to get to Innsbruck earlier, and spend only one night there. If I do this, instead of 2 nights in Salzburg, I think I would like to add a 3rd night to either Vienna or Prague.
