SKIING in ST. ANTON in February
We've never skiied in Europe before and some friends have invited us to join them in St. Anton. If I was planning the trip I probably would have picked France or Italy. Will we love St. Anton?

Can I take a railroad trip for a day to shop(!)in Italy?

Although it has been a while since I was there, I think you will love St. Anton. Austria (and Switzerland) are the most cosy places for real wintersports. St. Anton has also very good after-skiing possibilities. In France there's a lot of modern highrise buildings and I never get that special warm feeling like in Austria.
Sorry, don't know about the railroad trip to Italy.

Have skiied Courchevel in France for past few years, if you get a chance go there. Billiard table pistes, fantastic place and the worlds biggest interconneted ski area. Highly recommendable if you get a chance

Hi Edna:

St. Anton is the "birthplace of skiing". It is a wonderful Autrian experience. The had the "World Championships" held there last year and the town was all decked out like it was the Olympics! You will have a fabulous time! We stayed in the town of Lech which is just up the valley. In fact you can ski St Anton, Lech, Zurs (very Chic!) and St. Christoff). Usually there are resorts that do not have enough to keep you interested for a week, here you have soooo much! that the same people come back year after year and still do not get enough! I guess you can say that "I love Austria Skiing!

JOHN

I used to ski there as a kid. What's also nice is a day trip to Innsbruck.

Hi Edna,
I would not pass up the opportunity. St. Anton was wonderful. I skied there in Feb 2000 and used Innsbruck as a base. Austria really is a great place with wonderful people and incredible skiing. St. Anton is real close to several other resorts and we actually got lost in the mountains and ended up three resorts and an hour bus ride away from where we started but I saw some of the most incredible views and skiied some great trails.
Hope you grab the opportunity.
Erin

St. Anton is a terrific for skiing and apres ski. It's linked to several other areas and is a huge ski area. And Apres Ski there can get pretty wild. I love the area.
