Skiing In Cervinia or Livigno?
Has anyone skied in Cervinia or Livigno in the last couple of years?
What did you think? Any improvements to either of them?
We last skied in Cervinia maybe 9 or 10 years ago, and Livigno about 4 or 5 years ago.
Thinking about going to one of them this year, but can't decide which at the moment.
Thanks for any help.

John,
Well, I have thought of this but Italy is cheaper than France or Switzerland, many of the resorts in Austria are low so snow cover is not that reliable.
I did think of going to the US or Canada, but being from the UK I think it would work out too expensive as we would probably need to go there for more than one week.
I am still working on it, but Italy is still the hot favourite, still not sure which resort to go for though, Livigno looks good though as its a duty free resort.
By the way, where are you from the UK or US ?

Hi John,
Oh, I'm sorry I didn't mean to depress you about Austria, not all resorts in Austria are low.
I had a quick look in The Good Skiing Guide and I see that Lech is 1450m. It also mentions plenty of good points and hardly any bad points, so I'm sure you will have an excellent time.
Where do you prefer to ski Europe or the US ? and Why ?

My opinion is that skiing in the U.S. and Canada is better. I live in Switzerland now (U.S. citizen) and the resorts in North America are just planned better and lift systems are more modern and better connected. I have snowboarded in Sun Valley, Idaho, Utah, Lake Tahoe, throughout Washington State, France and Switzerland and so far my all time favorite place is Whistler. I think you might find that Canada and it's dollar is much more of a bargain then you think. Two European resorts I have been to that I really like which are less expensive then their counterparts are Les Arcs France and Flims/Laax Switzerland. They are both mentioned in the good skiing guide.

Hey Nick...try again!
I messed up my last post but Christine pretty much summed up what I would have said. I however love skiing in Europe! I think the Half-Board packages cannot be beat for value. I really love the way the Europeans "enjoy" the full ski day by stopping along the way to savor great lunches in pretty "huts" along he Mountains!! When you add the less expensive lift tix, and bargin airfare, I can do Europe less than I can do Colorado! One thing we in America will never have the "flavor" of is the "wonderful" experience of the "polite" European lift lines!! Especially with a group of Frenchmen, and Germans!! I am sharping my elbows right now!!

Have never skiied in Livigno (bevause it is a 4.5 hour tranfer), but we spend a long weekend in Cervinia every year. We love it, it's under 2 hour's drive from either of the Milan airports (closer to Turin, but the airport is not well connected). There is vast skiing area - including Zermatt. Quite nice to ski in the morning, maybe have lunch in Zermatt & come back to the Italian side in the afternoon. The weather is generally very good - especially in late season - great snow cover + sunshine.
We adore the Hermitage hotel, which is an exellent Relais et Chateaux property with a wonderful restaurant.
Would definitely recommend it!!
