Skiing Alps in April-Still Snow?

Hoping to ski Italian Alps - April 2nd. Too late in season? Hoping to be near Swiss border to experience Swiss Alp skiing also. Looking into Craveggia, Ponte Di Legno. Suggesions?
Thanks for any responses!!

Hello clubconte

We were in Chamonix, France this past mid-April, and there was still plenty of skiing.

Next year, who knows!

The mountaintops have skiing all year (we saw a ski school on the Jungfrau in July) - but you may have to go to a very high altitude and be limited as to ski areas.

Much depends on the weather, of course - both the total snow base and the timing of the snowfalls. Some resorts will most likely still be in operation at that time of year, others will almost certainly be shut down or nearly so. In general, altitude is your friend.

Cervinia, on the Italian side of the Matterhorn, is very snow sure and allows you to access the slopes on the Swiss side (Zermatt) on a single lift pass. On the Zermatt side there is skiing year-round on the glacier originating from the Kleine Matterhorn, so there is always some skiing available no matter how bad the snow in a particular year.
