The Death of Irish Pubs Is Greatly Exaggerated!
When Eire's government made a no-smoking law in public places that extended to all the countries fabled pubs many lamented that the Irish pub would cease to exist as we know it.
guinness without smoke? Patrons would abandon the pubs in droves?
Well guess not - just read a detailed article on the subject and Irish pubs are thriving!
why? it seems many pubs have established outdoor seating, often with the use of heaters, and now Dublin and other cities are dotted with outdoor cafes the fickle climate never let develop before. And it seems non-smokers are coming more to clean air indoor pubs and smokers still migrate to their outdoor appendages - and the alfresco pubs are even attracting new customers for the ambiance of outdoor cafes - especially on the rare decent weather day!
Will Dutch coffeeshops follow suit when the Dutch government sooner or later follows the European trend towards making all indoor public gathering places smoke free?

IMO..no they won't just as cigar bars are exempted from "non smoking" bans in many areas.

Then, you've never read this article about Rick Steves and NORML.

Bravo to Rick Steves - one of the few prominent Americans with balls enough to speak out on this hot button issue - and say that he favors legalizing pot use. Willie Nelson on NPR the other day also said he smokes pot every day - that along with exercise and a round of golf it's in his daily routine and that he's never found anything as effective for stress relief - bravo to Rick Steves - i always thought he was kind of a dork but this brave stand has helped change my opinion of him. To make cannabis illegal and have alcohol and tobacco legal defies any logic no matter how you present it.
