You do know that there are no mountains in Great Britian? Unless you want to fly to the French Alpes on Air Liberte....be satisfied with some bangers and mash.

Matt- you must look up the ski club of great britian- they are located in wimbelton. I live in the states, and went on a ski trip with them last year to Davos, and had the adventure of a lifetime. About 4 weeks ago I flew to London and had a wonderful reunion at the Grenedir in Bell Gravia with about 12 of the people I met on that Davos trip. They have many weekend trips as well as week long. They have a web page as well. If you have trouble finding them let me know, I have the info in my office and can get an email address for you.

Try Chamonix or Megeve in France(1 hour's drive from Geneva). Klosters or Davos in Switzerland (about 1 hour & 30-45 minutes from Zurich). Cervinia in Italy (1 hour and 30 minutes from Milan, 1hour and 15 minutes from Turin). Or you could get a package from www.skiweekend.co.uk.

Watchout Kukla. You're really gonna upset the Scots and Welsh on this board by suggesting there are no mountains in Britain.

There is skiing in Scotland (Aviemore, amongst others) but you'd have to make sure the snow was good before you went, as it can be less reliable than the Alps.

Fodors

The foreign exchange window of any branch of Thomas Cooks has theur European Timetable. Table 365 shows trains with sleepers and couchettes from Paris Austerlitz to Bourg St Maurice, and back. You'd combine these with Eurostar to Paris. You can book at the Europe desks in the travel centres in Paddington, Euston, Kings Cross and Cannon Street stations. The service at RailEurope on Piccadilly is ill-inforned and slow.

But alas rail is now twice the price, or more, of a no-frills flight from Luton or Stansted.
To Lyon Go, http://www.go-fly.com ++44 845 60 5432,
and Buzz, http://www.buzzaway.com ++44 870 240 7070.
Both fly from Stansted
To St Etienne, Ryanair http://www.ryanair.ie ++44 870 156 9569. Fly from Stansted
To Geneva, Easyjet http://www.easyjet.com ++44 870 6 000 000. Fly from Luton

Busses run in three hours from the continental airports to the resorts: detail in the European Timetable tables 398 and 399.

Would the Cairngorms be easier to reach, by good Caledonian Sleepers from Euston ? Times in table 160 of the book. You'd book an Apex ticket.

Please write if I can help further.

Ben Haines, London

I've spent the past 2 days trying to find accomodation for my husband's friends from England for a ski weekend from Zurich or Geneva in a few weeks. Having a time of it! All I can say is you should be able to find something but it won't be cheap!! I've found that a full week doesn't cost that much more really. Good Luck.
