Ski resorts near Florence/Rome
 

Hi Everyone! I'm going on a month-long trip to Rome, Florence, London, and Paris. I want to go skiing and am wondering if anyone knows of good resorts in the Rome/Florence area. How much should I expect to spend? And how should I travel to the ski resort? Thanks so much.

Look at a map. There are no ski resorts in the Rome Florence area. If you mean what ski resorts are in Italy you will have to travel a good deal further north.

I have heard of skiing in Central Italy...just wondering if anyone has been to any in that area.

Courtney - take huh's word for it (after you look at a map). The Itallian Alps are very far north.<BR><BR>If skiing is the point of your trip why aren't you going to Switzerland, Austria and France instead?

Skiing is NOT the reason for the trip, but I enjoy it, so I thought I would take a day trip. I am not looking to ski in the ItaLIAN Alps, just somewhere centrally located.

Courtney, Honey: What don't you get. There isn't any skiing near Rome. The suggestion to look at a map was a good one.

If you want to be guaranteed snow, you will want to arrange for more than a day trip. You could take a train to Bolzano and possibly a bus to St Ulrich (?) or somewhere near there. Plan to spend at least one night, preferably two. This assumes you will be there sometime in January/February or early March.

Hello Courtney,<BR><BR>Not true - there ARE ski resorts accessible from both Rome and Florence.<BR><BR>The best one accessible as a day trip from Rome (50 miles) is probably TERMINILLO (1,500-2,000 metres) near Rieti.<BR>(I was there once and got snowed in - couldn't get out for 2 days).<BR><BR>There is snow forecast there for the next 3 days, so the pistes should soon be open. <BR><BR>There is a bus service to Terminillo from Rome at weekends when the pistes are open.<BR><BR>There are also several places in Abbruzzo - Campo Felice, Campo Imperatore, Pescasseroli (I think) ...<BR><BR>From Florence the nearest might be ABETONE. Abetone is about one Hour and half from Florence. Bus (every day). Snow usually till april-may.<BR><BR>

Cortina d'Ampezzo is in the Dolomites. Went there today. Skiing was great!
