Ski accom Val Gardena Jan09

Hi - we're 2 families planning a week of skiing in the Val Gardena/Dolomites area in Jan 09 and would like some suggestions on accommodation & feedback on facilities - considering that we will have 3 kids in tow (3, 5 & 7 yo). We looking either for B&B or apartment. Prefer 3 to 4 star style. Many thanks for any suggestions & tips. Kathryn/Sydney, Australia

Hi Kathryn - I usually stay in Ortisei at:
http://www.hotelvillapark.com/eng/index.html

This is a 3* B&B - I believe they also have apartments. Their price also includes free entry to the new village swimming pool ...

You can find the Val Gardena accm directory (- with links to all hotels and apartments) at:

http://hotel.valgardena.it/en/hotelListW/?ResortType=FW

A few hotels cater especially for families, with organised childrens' activities, e.g Cavallino Bianco (4*)

There are lots of options for childrens' activities in Val Gardena - you may find these useful:

Let me know if I can be of more help ...

Steve
May thanks for your info and prompt reply. I also note your other posts on the same subject in particular the one to Suedee (Feb 08) - very comprehensive. Hope when you're heading our way (down under to Sydney) we will be able to be as generous with advice.

I have emailed Hotel Villa Park that you suggested and I see that at the top of the range you have also recommended Adler, Gardena-Grodnerhof and Cavallino Bianco. In case we opt for a more 'hotel' experience and keeping in mind we wish to be in town and close to the lifts do you have any other suggestions - perhaps with one star less. Do you know am Stetteneck or Cosmea or Grones or Hotel Hell ?
Would appreciate your feedback on these or others.

Best
Danny & Kathryn

Hi - Of those you've mentioned I'd probably choose Cosmea - very close to the centre (- as well as the Alpe di Siusi lift) - and also convenient for the ski-bus to Selva and S Cristina lifts.

Check out also Genziana (- right in the centre).

Hell looks nice but is a few mins walk from the centre.
Also Pra Palmer - 5 mins walk (- near Hell ;) )
I don't know the Grones.

For convenience for the ski-bus Cosmea, Genziana, Snaltnerhof or Villa Park are all good.
You can find their links on:

Hope this helps ...

We have stayed several times at the Hotel Adler in St. Ulrich (formerly Ortisei) in the Grödnertal (formerly Val Gardena).

I can highly recommend the hotel: A breathtaking pool and wellness area, excellent food, good rooms, good service etc.

The best thing is that from the hotel you have direct (!) access to the ski lift. The have an escalator from the hotel to the lift entrance. It is very quick and convenient - especially when you are going with your kids.

Steve - thanks for your comments. More research from my end now.

traveller1959 - thanks for recommending the Adler - unfortunately out of our budget.

Can I suggest you look at Hotel Scherlin which is approx 4 miles out of Ortisei. We stayed there this summer and it was fantastic. We had a car, but there is a ski bus which stops just outside the hotel. Fantastic view of the Val Gardena valley from the balcony and lovely food. Take a look at the website

Yorky - thank you but we prefer to be walking distance from the centre of town.
