Skellig Michael Information

We will be in Ireland in July, and my husband is interested in visiting Skellig Michael. We have four sons (ages 9 to 17), and the older two are quite excited to go, but the younger two are a bit afraid. Is it a dangerous trip? I have read that the waves can be 10 feet high, and the boats do not look that big. The landing seems quite risky, too. If you have been there, would you recommend taking a family of four boys (as young as 9)? We have never been to Ireland and only have a few days free time (when not working), and the Skellig Michael trip would eat up one day. We had planned to drive the ROK, Dingle Pen., perhaps the Killarney National Park, etc. on the weekend that we have free (Thurs-Sun). Should we do the Skellig Michael trip or not?

Thanks!

Hello Tracy

I have done the Skellig boat trip, and i have to admit its not for the faint hearted! I did it for the sake of my husband and kids, but i wouldnt do it again for all the tea in china! the islands and the bird life are really great, but the boat journey is not good on a full stomach, or even on an empty one come to that!!

It has to be your decision, my kids and husband thought i was just being a big baby, but i felt very sick and very nervous on the boat.
