skagen & skagen lodging
Hi!
I will be going to Denmark in August and would like to visit Skagen and Grenen. Does anyone have any lodging suggestions in Skagen..somewhere comfortable and clean but not too expensive? Has anyone stayed at the Marienlund? Unfortunately their website is not in English.
Thanks for your help!

Hi
Oh, nostalgia ! I used to visit this area for weekends away (and cheaper booze !) when I lived in Sweden.
Brondums ( http://www.broendums-hotel.dk/ )is the famous old hotel in Skaagen with artistic connections. It is quite close to the centre. I've stayed there ...... it is medium price, has old world charm and good food.
There are lots of others .... check here : http://www.skagen-tourist.dk/
There are some good restaurants in the town and around the harbour.
The walk along the sand spit to the tip of Denmark is impressive.

Thanks so much for the suggestion & link! I would love more info, but I will only have a day and a half to explore Skagen before going onto Odense.
Is that too short of a visit or is it quite a small town?

If you are going to be in Copenhagen before your visit to Skagen, I suggest you go to the Hirschsprung Collection, Stockholmsgade 20, tel. #35 42 03 36. Several paintings by the Skagen "impressionists" are there. It is one of my favorite museums in Copenhagen.

One full day is enough for Skagen unless you are lucky to visit on a warm day, then you might want to use some extra time on the beach. The town is very small, but have some nice Crafts and jewellery shops and Art galleries. Old Skagen town is a good place to be at sunset. Remember going on www.sandormen.dk to the tip of Grenen once, but its more romantic walking. The town itself really can get quiet in evening, but there are some restaurants with live music.

Thanks for all the advice...and the sandormen looks like fun! Is it very crowded with vacationers in August? Also, I've been browsing some Skagen sites and noticed that many do not have English on them...which is fine! But will I have any trouble communicating not knowing any Danish or German while I am there?
