Of course remember the bathroom has to be accounted for in these measurements.

Kerouac, I posted before I saw your post. Is that indeed the case? I had thought that even the balcony, if any, was included in the square meters.

If you're buying an apartment, yes. But not in the case of a hotel room. In the same vein, if you're buying an apartment and it is listed as "3 rooms," the kitchen and bathroom are not counted as rooms. A "trois pièces" means a 2-bedroom apartment.

You can't compare hotel rooms in other parts of the world to those in europe - just like you can;t compare those in other parts of the US to thos ein New York.

Cost of land, taxes, etc - as well as old buildings with small rooms - means you simply don't get very much space unless you go for luxury properties.

Our own master bedroom at home is approx 315 square feet - or 30 square meters - but hotel rooms that size in New York are very rare in budget properties.
