Sixt car rental in Germany/Austria
I am still waiting to get a quote from gemut.com, but in the meantime it seems Sixt's prices are much better than AutoEurope (though I've used the latter before and therefore am comfortable with it). Has anyone had a bad experience renting a car from Sixt in Munich? The posts on here about it are a bit old.

We rented from Sixt in Sep 2001 at Munich Airport. We were referred from Lufthansa, so I don't know if I got any extra discount or not.
We ordered a mid-size car for 4 people and when we got to the counter, they offered is a BMW 3-series diesel. Lots of pep to my surprise, great mileage, and diesel is less expensive than regular gas. I would rent from them again. If you can get a diesel for about the same price, jump on it. Don't remember the exact cost -- it was around $300 or there abouts for 9 days. ((b)) |
I just reserved a car with Gemut for Austria only.
I was very pleased with the service. And the price was very good, especially for an automatic for twelve days. I was very surprised at the prices of Austrian car rentals. Maybe it is the time of year and duration of the rental. Anyway, for my type of rental, they were very reasonable. Much more so than Sixt. Good luck. |
i did not wait for a quote for very long at all from gemut...call them on the phone they have an 800 number...
you can't beat them... |
I understand it is a family run business. So while you don't have 24/7 operators at your fingertips, it is nice to have personal service.
This is probably why is might take them a little longer to get back to you. |
For Doriana:
Don't let anybody talk you out of renting a car for your trip.It is much better than a train ans for two people definitely cheaper. The only thing you have to do though if you go by car is to avoid downtown hotels. They either have no parking or they will charge you a lot of money for it. I always find accommmodations on the outkirts of cities and close to a raiway station that will provide easy access to the city center. For Budman: SIXT Rent-a-car is not the best nor the cheapest. I very much doubt that you gor a BMW for $33 per day. That is as impossible in Europe as it would be in the U.S. For finding a reasonable car rental agency, try this one: www.rentalcargroup.com |
You're right, you couldn't get it for that price today. Back in 2001 the $$$ was riding extremely high. I distinctly remember being in Ireland where the most expensive B&B we stayed in was $45 with the exchange rate of the Punt, and we are leaving next week and that same B&B will cost about $80 with the current exchange rate of the Euro. The 2 bedroom 2 bath apt we stayed in in Austria in Sept 2001 was $65. Today it's $95.
So, I guess it's all relative, but back then Sixt thru Lufthansa was running specials on Mercedes & BMW's. I'll post my receipts on my website so you can see for yourself -- www.budman.com ((a)) ((b)) |
We rented from Sixt last August in Frankfurt. Their prices were much better than AutoEurope's.

My husband rents from Sixt in Frankfurt every month. He's had great service, BMW's, Audi's and Mercedes. Decent prices as well.
