Six hours in Prague

It's looking like we may have 8 hours or so in Prague between flights (EDI-PRG-IST) in late January. I haven't been in Prague for many years, my spouse never, and it will be January. How would you spend around 6 hours (net of airport hoohah) in Prague? Time of day will be ca. noon - 6pm. Fastest way from the airport to the old town?

Related question - any recent experiences on Czech airlines (coach - :( )? TYVM.

czech air if fine. i have flown them twice a week for the last four months.

taxi to the old town. there is only one company that goes into the airport to do pickups. they don't meter..it should cost you under CZK700. Back to the airport, call or find (never too hard) a AAA taxi. Do not just jump into any cab or you can get taken. AAA always meters and they are very reasonable. the return trip should cost under 500CZK. go with just any cab and they will not use the meter, tell you you are getting a deal and charge 4x or more what it should cost.

for 6 hours, i would just walk the old town, see the squares, etc, charles bridge, etc.

have fun.

get dropped off at the top of the castle, walk down throught the castle, hit charles bridge, walk up karlova have a snack around old town square (not on it) walk up to wencelas square. we have customers that want to do the same thing about one a month and that seems a pretty good route!

I flew Czech Air last month and loved it. One of the better coach experiences I've ever had. Don't fret! Follow ChrisinPrague's itinerary...that's about all you'll have time for.

I just flew Czech air-returned on 11/12. The flights to and from the US were overbooked- we were a group of 11 and they tried to tell two of my friends that they did not have seats for them (even though our travel agent had booked all 11 seat assignments and we were at the airport 3 hours early). Finally one of my friends checked in through a different agent and "miraculously" my friends ended up with seats and they were the original seats that had been assigned. I have heard that his has happened to others before.
