SIx Hours in Brussels....

What would you do with six hours in Brussels?
We have a 6.5 hour layover there between trains.
Have never been.
Should we just hop on a tour bus for a bit?
Thank you so much.

What time of day will this be?

If it was me, I'd make a reservation for lunch or dinner (we had the best food in Brussels!) or I'd do some chocolate shopping. Getting on a tour bus is about the last thing I'd wan to do!

I went to Brussels for a day trip from Paris, so I suppose I was there about that same amt of time, or less. I went to the musical instrument museum as that was something of major importance to me, it's one of the best in the world. Then I went to Grand Place and checked it out, I always like looking at good architecture like that. I think there is some minor museum there, also of the city's history and I always like those, also.

Then I went to visit the Art Nouveau quarter and Victor Horta's houses

I may have gone to Grand Place first from the station, as there is a tram that goes from near the music museum (which is near the palace) to Victort Horta's house. It's tram 92. I took the metro from the train station (Midi for me) to near Grand Place.

Those hop on/off buses are usually convenient for a day. Brussels has a good transportation system though. The hopon/off bus does have a stop near the music museum but they label it Magritte Mseum and they do have one line that goes to the art Nouveau section.

About 4 hours too many for some - lots of folks here diss Brussels based on a quick look like yours but with some planning could be nice. Take train to Brussels Centrale train station - short walk from town center and the two famous things about Brussels - the Grand'Place, one of Europe's sweetest town squares and the statue of a small boy pissing - the Mannequin Pis. The main shopping district may be of interest if into shopping but otherwise modern area. If into a little walking go uphill to the Royal Palace area with really nice formal gardens and the palace. Some like to track down chocalatiers - making their own Belgian chocolates.

Thank you so much.
My husband lived in Belgium 50+ years ago when he was 5 or 6, and he has a teeny, tiny statue of the small boy, so it'll be fun to stop by that for sure.

Just walk around, eat a waffle from one of the vendors, have some fries, drink beer. I had to go to cafe Delirium, their password is bewareofpickpockets but it was quiet when we went in the afternoon. We tried many beers but we went during Christmas and the markets were very nice. We got to see all the hoopla with Pompeo arriving in town and my husband enjoyed talking motorcycles with the police. I went and looked in a couple of lace shops. Not much for chocolate but do love beer. We got a cab from the train station.
