Sitges- Which train station on RENFE?
 

I am looking for tickets from Barcelona to Sitges. I have tried Sitges as well as others listed in articles, but cannot seem to find a match for what I enter as my destination.

Any suggestions?

I am looking at a picture of the Sitges train station i took long ago and the big station sign over the tracks says

SITGES

doubt if they have changed the name

try the bahn.de - German rail site for schedules anywhere in Europe and see if Sitges is used.

anyway commuter trains run all the time to Sitges and just buy your return ticket before boarding. No reason to suffer anymore at the very fickle renfe.es site IMO

Does RENFE site list Cernaias (sp?) or C trains - suburban trains that perhaps are not a part of RENFE - Sitges i believe is served by C trains. Just a thought

The trains to Sitges are local trains, "cercanias" in Spanish. The schedules and fares are listed separately on the RENFE website. You cannot reserve seats or buy tickets online. There are normally four trains every hour between Sitges and Barcelona and you use them just like a metro or subway, buying a ticket at the station and hopping on any train.

Bahn.de seems only to show

Sitges-San Pedro de Ribas

as the station and shows a paucity of trains when i put tomorrow in

maybe the line is out of service, being rebuilt or buses have replaced many trains?

I don't know - i am sure someone will.

and on RENFE try putting in:
Sitges-San Pedro de Ribas

Ahh Sitges! Brings back fond memories from my backpacking days in Spain! Spent 21 days in Sitges because it was sooooooo cheap!

how has it changed? It is now and perhaps was then one of Europe's primo gay resorts - when i was there guys were openly kissing on the train platform!

Fares depend on the number of zones. Barcelona-Sitges is four zones and a one-way ticket is €3. You can buy ten tickets for €22 (valid one month, can be used by more than one person, eg five people each making one round trip).

I was there in the early 70's and it was very different. Small town, people went there for the beaches. Bikinis were frowned upon (and these were the modest bikinis that really cover everything). There was a very good roasted chicken place and also a lot of English visitors having a good holiday time in the few bars!
It was not an openly gay resort area. Franco was still in power; now I feel really old!

Ah yeh days of Franco when long-haried backpackers had to get their hair cut often at the border to be allowed in

and at youth hostels long-hairs who did slip in at times were banned - hostels i stayed in always had a huge picture of Franco behind the desk and hostel wardens i assume were Fascist party hacks.

I had forgotten about people having to get their hair cut!
I do remember the soldiers on every corner with the machine guns in the cities.
Other than the roasted chicken spot, I remember that Sitges had a beautiful church with a lot of steps. I also remember meeting a young U.S. Airforce guy who was there for the weekend. I've kept him around now for 36 years.

Sitges today is also noted for nudist beaches!

and i also sadly remember along train tracks in Madrid and large cities hundreds and hundreds of crude shacks where poor folk lived - yes Spain has come a long long way.

That is interesting! I remember a good chicken place as well (and now that I think about it...it was run by two gay guys!)

My group also met up with a group of Airforce men in that area! We hit the bars and had great fun.

They were from a Trier area Base in Germany.

After we continued on our 2 month backpack tour, we were running low on funds and jumped on our Eurorail Pass and headed to Trier where the guys got us on to the base and we enjoyed all the comforts..... compliments of Uncle Sam!!
