Sitges, Spain in August?
Hi all -
Next July/August my fiance and I will be honeymooning in Europe. After staying in Barcelona, we would like to spend 3 nights in a beach town close to the city. We think it would be nice to have a smaller town experience and just lay on the beach for a few days. We considered going north to the Costa Brava, but we did not want to rent a car and the bus system seems a little too complicated for when we want to get to BCN for our flight to Paris. So I was looking south, towards Sitges, because of the convenient train line that goes through there. So.. is Sitges during the first week of August crazy? We'd be there Tuesday to Friday. I understand pretty much everywhere on the Spanish coast is going to be packed, but I'm hoping we will still find room to spread out our towels! Anyone have any hotel recommendations? Or perhaps other beach towns that are easily accessible that might be better? |
Crazy? It depends, but it will be busy as August is the middle of the holiday season and Sitges is a popular destination.
|
Yes it will be busy. However, it is an opportunity to live like the "locals". I have never regretted such experiences.
|
Thanks for the advice. I'm always looking to live like a local, so we will go for it! Any hotel recs?
|
Are you gay??? (LOL)...a lot of the "locals" who go to Sitges, especially in August are of that persuasion. But don't be the least bit put off by that...they never attack anyone and we always know where the happening places really are. Enjoy...it can be a lot of fun.

I was reluctant to say anything before PP.....
my gay friend called Sitges a "gay Disneyland" Sounds like fun! |
No I'm not gay, and I knew that Sitges was a gay destinations.. but I assumed that it didn't mean a straight couple couldn't go or would feel awkward? Not sure.. I had read on another post that many families also vacation in Sitges, and since I have no issues with openly gay families/couples/whatever, I thought we'd try it out. Thoughts?

Why don't you look into taking the ferry to Majorca or Ibiza and Formentera. Much nicer than Sitges.
|
I knew Sitges was a gay mecca when I stepped off the train and saw some young guys passionately kissing on the platform! Just made the place all the more interesting IMO.
|
No, Sitges visitors are a mixed lot - gays, lesbians, bisexuals, transgender and straight, plus families. Provided you are open minded, you should blend in, as it's very cosmopolitan. August is peak of peak and hotels charge the most and are heavily booked, so reserve well in advance.
