Sitges and day trips

We have 10 full nights in Barcelona. Right now we're leaning toward staying 4 nights in Barcelona and 6 nights in Sitges. We definitely want to go north and see Tossa de mar (one member here has me in love with this area) and maybe Roses - also head to Castelldefels, Vilanova and maybe as far north as Begur. I know we can only do so much.

I found great hotels in Barcelona (Hotel Le Serra) and Sitges (Platjador) - though Sitges hotel has no pool - but is right on the sea. My daughter does like the pool I must say.

I'm thinking the 4 days in Barcelona are to see Barcelona. The 6 days in Sitges - 3 days trips, 3 relax days. Thoughts? Would it be smarter to stay somewhere north for a couple days? We are always adventurous, have a rental car, and don't mind the drive. On the other hand, we don't want to be driving home very late in the dark...

Thank you for any thoughts.
Ellen

Sitges is a nice enough seaside resort -one of the most popular gay meccas in Europe which gives it a different flare- but I would go north of Barcelona to that seaside area of famous calanques or even over the border to say Coulieres, France and vicinity - Coulieres being the quintessentially dreamy seaside resort with many other nice ones nearby.

Figueras and Gerona are popular places to day trip to north of Barcelona - and the French coast too- Figueras for the smashing Dali Museum and Gerona as a fine fine old larger town.

But Sitges is a more vibrant place than others, especially at night.

Don't miss day tripping to Montserrat, the famous pilgrim mecca on a mountain top from either Sitges or Barcelona.

I'm much more of a city guy so I would spend more time in Barcelona. For a day trip, head out to Sant Sadurni D'Anoia, the center of cava country; the train station is literally next to the Freixenet winery and others are a short taxi ride away (Cordoniu was especially beautiful).

It doesn't make a lot of sense to base in Sitges and day trip north of Barcelona. It would be much better to stay a couple of days in the north if you want to go to Tossa del Mar, Begur etc.

Sitges is a nice town and it is fantastic for relaxing. But three days of laying on the beach is a lot. There are plenty of places to visit from there - Tarragona, Poblet monastery, Montblanc.. the Pau Casals museum in Sant Salvador is worth a visit. But if you want to visit the Costa Brava I would definitely tack on an additional base up there.

Whether 4 days will be enough for you in Barcelona depends, I think, on what you want to see and experience. I spent 5 very full, very busy days there and could easily have used more.

In Tossa del Mar, you might consider staying at the Hotel Cap d’Or in Tossa del Mar and, for dinner, La Cuina de Can Simon.

If you haven't already done so, you might want to look at my trip report. To find it, click on my screen name and then scroll down to the section on trip reports. It's long, but searchable. You might want to start with my time in Besalu.

rialtogrl is, IMO, giving you some excellent advice.
