Sites to see while driving from Shannon to Dingle
I am arriving at Shannon airport and renting a car to get to my destination in Dingle.
Are there any stops I should make along the way? I don't want to make a day out of it, just random stops here and there while making the 3 hour or so drive. Any sites I should see? Also somewhere to grab breakfast since it will be early in the morning. Thanks. |
This has been asked several times recently on the TA forum. My view any more than 2 hours off a redeye should be only motorway not having hour 3+ on narrow rural roads.
Like I say you should stay closer to the Airport but if you have to get to Dingle then grab breakfast at the limestone café in Shannon Airport, collect the rental car and just get where you are going. |
The Cliffs of Moher and the Burren could be right on the way - but yes better to sleep near Shannon and the next day leisurely drive to Dingle via those fine sights.

"The Cliffs of Moher and the Burren could be right on the way"
To Galway perhaps. But adds over 2 hours being the oposite direction to the SNN~Dingle dash |
Well by 'could' be that meant you could go that way to see some stunning and famous scenery. Think about staying one night say neat the Cliffs as we did - nice little B&Bs abound and locals speak Gaelic as they daily tongue (all speak English of course too) - a remote part of Ireland for sure - make this you first stop perhaps otherwise yes like Tony says that is not the fastest or more direct way.

Thanks. We'll probably just drive straight to Dingle. You're right about the narrow roads being a bad idea after a red eye flight.

Loop Head. Get out of the car and walk around (don't fall into the Atlantic) Take the ferry from Killimer to Tarbert and you're almost there.

I agree with Tony (as usual) about breakfast at the airport, since I didn't get the chance to stop at his place for his famous Ulster fry.
