Sita Bus & Trenitalia questions
Is there any way with either of these to see a list of what towns they go to without having to enter every combination on the website?
Is there any way to see the Sita website in English? Am I missing something? Although I plan to learn a little Italian before I go next Sept, at the moment I know absolutely no Italian at all.
In the meantime, can I take the bus from Siena to Pienza?
Are these buses just for daytrips or can you take luggage on? If so, do you take the luggage right on or is there room for it underneath like on a Greyhound?
Thanks!

Between Siena and Pienza, look up schedules in TRA-IN, S.p.A. Bus Lines:
www.trainspa.it
The website is in Italian and English.
Luggage on intercity buses can usually be stored in the underfloor compartment, like on Greyhound. Some of these intercity buses are extremely modern, with air conditioning and seatbelts as well. City buses usually don't have underfloor luggage storage.

Hi sp,
Go to http://www.sita-on-line.it/HomePage.htm
Click "Toscana"
Click "orari" (timetable)
For www.trenitalia.com/en you have to enter your departure and arrival stations. You can also buy tickets online.
You will get a list of routes.
Click on each of them and you will get the bus routes and the towns they serve.

Thanks for this information. GAC, I tried out that trainspa website and put in Siena to Pienza. It showed the bus going to Buonconvento, and then when I clicked on the map, it was clear that this was a good deal short of getting to Pienza. I sent them an email about whether they actually go Pienza, but since it was late afternoon when I sent it, it will be at least tomorrow before I hear back, if then. Am I not reading this correctly? Usually I'm not so dense about these things, but even on the English version of this website, a lot of the explanations are still in Italian.
ira, thanks, I did click on what you said and got the connections from Florence, but there didn't seem to be much from other starting points, such as where you can take the bus to from Pienza, even when you checked all those listed under Toscana.
I feel like an idiot for not being able to figure out these bus routes! Seems like it should be simple. Mainly I was interested in Siena to Pienza and then wherever you can go from Pienza on bus.
Thanks for any clarification.

Susan: try clicking on Line 112A from Siena to Montepulciano after clicking on the "Linee Extraurbane" icon. This shows the complete TRA-IN bus schedule between the Siena train station and Pienza, with onward service to Montepulciano.
The website also gives you one way fares for intercity travel, but you must first look up the distance in kilometers on a detailed map in order to calculate the fare.
I note that there is a morning bus, summer only and Mon-Sat only, leaving Siena at 10:50 and arriving in Pienza at 12:05. There is another, yearly bus Mon thru Sat, departing at 13:10 and arriving at 14:25. There are still later buses, but you must note carefully the seasonality and days of the week abbreviations on the webpage.
From Montepulciano, there is onward service to Chianciano Terme and Chiusi train station via LFI bus lines, usually hourly. www.lfi.it
From the Chiusi train station, you can travel on Intercity (IC) and Diretto (D)trains north to Florence and south to Orvieto and Rome. Eurostar Italia (ES) trains don't stop at the Chiusi station.

Thanks a lot ira and GAC, I'll check all this out. I may be in trouble anyway, as I was looking to go from Siena to Pienza on a Sunday, or maybe I'll just have to leave later in the day.

Susan: I don't see ANY Sunday service by TRA-IN all the way to Piena on Line 112, only as far as Buonconvento. Maybe they'll answer your e-mail with some good information.
You might also try e-mailing the tourist offices in Siena and Pienza. There might be a substitute bus company between Buonconvento (or even Siena) and Pienza on Sundays.

Well, GAC, I'm glad you checked that. At least I know I was looking at the right thing! Since I put in a Sunday date, that's why it only showed it going to Buonconvento. I'll try your other suggestions. Thanks.
