Sistine Chapel
 

Is it possible to skip the Vatican Museum? I have already seen it and the family is not that interested in it, but rather cut to the chase and go to the Sistine Chapel. Does anyone know if this is even allowed. Thanks!

Sure it is, just walk and follow the signs.

But you still have to wait in line at the entrance :)

The Sistine Chapel is accessible only through the Vatican Museum which is really a collection of separate museums in one complex of buildings. You can follow the signs that skip over many of the exhibit areas and take you directly to the Chapel. However, you still pay full price to enter the museum and the walk from the museum entrance to the chapel might take anywhere from 15-30 minutes, depending on the crowds and the designated route for that time of year. (The route is altered depending on season and size of crowds in the museum.)

It just means moving quickly (if possible) through the rest of the museum. There are parts that can be bypassed, for example the Egyptian collection. When we were there the were definite choke points leading to the chapel and there is no missing those. Going later in the day might be a good strategy because most people want to maximize their time inside.

Yes, I was wondering if there's another way besides just walking through the endless corridors of museum.

We did wait until the afternoon last year and there wasn't a line at all. In the morning the line wrapped down to the main road that one would take walking from the metro station to St.Peter's Square.

I've done that twice...stopping only to rent an audio guide for the chapel.
