Sintra Itinerary advice.

We are planning to arrive in Lisbon mid july and stay in Sintra for approximately 5 days. Would it be best to spend 1 or 2 days in Lisbon and then stay in Sintra the remaining time with a possible day trip to Obispo? How far is it to the airport from either city? Would love suggestions for Hotels with nice views and restaurant recommendations. Thanks!!

Hi there. From Lisbon to Sintra (and vice versa) you should use the train. It takes aprox 40 - 50 minutes, and you have trains very often during the day (it is a suburban line so there will be plenty of trains). It is also easy to do something like going in the morning and returning in the afternoon.
Then, in terms of distances. The airport is inside Lisbon, and you have a aerobus that takes you to Baixa (city centre). You also have a bus connection between the airport and Cascais.
So if you are staying in Sintra, the cheapest way to get there from the airport is taking the aerobus, exiting in Rossio, then take the train...et voilá.
restaurants: There are hundreds in Lisbon, and the prices depend on your type of restaurant. Menus are in Portuguese, and also in English, French and Spanish, and in some cases in German. The most expensive are located in the castle, and in The Vasco da Gama tower (expo area). The cheapest you find them everywhere.
You will also find fast food restaurants (if you like).
(Obispo ???...Óbidos !!!)

.................. ...................
www.tourist-in-portugal.web.pt

Are you speaking of Obidos. It is a wonderful city and worth a day or two. It is walled in beautiful and inexpensive. We stayed at a place called Josef De ??. We just faxed him and we are returning the first of June to stay there again. Sorry I can't think of the full name right now, but if you can't find it email me back and I will bring it to work with me in the am and email you all the fax numbers, etc. Ann

Just returned from 6 days in Lisbon & one week traveling Portugal. In Sintra, we stayed at Seteais Palace, a beautiful restored palace with 30 rooms. It was our last nite so we splurged & it was worth every cent! While in the small town of Sintra we visited the Lawrence Hotel& the staff were so kind as to take us on a complete tour of the small hotel - it's very pretty with a warm friendly staff.

Lisbon was good for two days then you will be ready for the rest of Portugal. You can see everything in Sintra in two days also. But we could have stayed in Obidos for at least 3 -4 days. It was the cutest & most fun town of Portugal. We stayed at the castle which is a posoda.

I'd budget 3 days in Sintra/Lisbon, and base yourself in Sintra, taking the train in to Lisbon one day. You'll need 2 days in Sintra for sure. In Sintra, we stayed at the Quinta da Capela, and it was more than lovely.
Spend the rest of the time going elsewhere, perhaps to Obidos as others suggest. One day in Obidos is plenty of time--do stay in the Pousada at the castle, and splurge for a suite; the 3 suites are each situated in the castle's towers, an experience that ranks highly in my travel memories.
