You really, really don't want to be in the Chatelet-Les Halles area at night. Central Paris is very safe....but why tempt fate in this place.

I found Chatelet to be a big pain in the butt because of it's sheer size and I really didn't like being there at night. Incidentally we were 2 girls -late 20's & mid 30's- so we had the same concerns you do.

Also, we didn't like it above ground (the area around Les Halles) at night either.

Thanks again all.
Unfortunately, my trip has been canceled (perhaps to be rescheduled).

I was leaning toward Hotel Regence Etoile or the Hotel Cambon, for the quickest commute, but also good neighborhoods.
