Single room vs double room??

I am trying to book a hotel in switzerland but keep coming across single room vs double room....now does single room mean, a room for only one guest or what does it mean? Hope I dont sound too ignorant...I am going to travel with my husband and wanted to make sure we;re not stuck with a single bed.
Thanks

Hi ank,

A sigle room is meant for one person.

A double is meant for 2 people.

Although a double for single use is quite spacious, a single for double use is not recommended.

Not even for a honeymoon - unless you're both really skinny.

a single for two people is not allowed. you MUST book a double room with two people. this goes for everywhere in europe and you certainly will not get away with it in switzerland (where foreigners are well scrutinised).

...and sometimes the rooms are the same but the difference is just that two people are charged more. (makes sense - 2 breakfasts, twice the hot water, twice the towels, etc.)

A single means for one person, a double means for two people. Room size and bed confirgurations may be the same or different.

And... a twin refers to a room for two people but with twin beds rather than one double bed.
