hi grandmere---thank you, as you are one of the posters who helped me on my "maiden voyage" on fodors....that is to say, when I first posted back in '04. Altho we have never stayed at the Bonaparte, on several previous trips to Europe we have stayed at hotels in London, Paris, Venice and Rome in which we booked separate single rooms for our son who was traveling with us. All were very small, the smallest being, IMO, unacceptably so---that was in Rome--but he did not seem to mind.
I hope you have a lovely trip and if it were I, I would view the small rooms as "cozy" as one is not troubled by sharing the space or by any need to accomodate to another's needs.

I stayed in the least expensive single at the Bonaparte last month. It was small and very modest--even a bit worn. However, that having been said, the staff was friendly and helpful, and the location was superb. All in all, it was a good value, and I would definitely return.

Hi G,
They have 3 classes of single.
The least expensive are fairly small, but you won't have to climb over the bed.
The medium is a double room for single use. (This is what I suggest.)
The expensive is a large double for single use.
Hope this helps.

Yes, I think singles everywhere in 2-3* hotels are about the same, but that will have to do. As it turns out, the women (first-timers to Paris) I'm traveling with liked the looks of the du Lys better so we will be staying there for the 6 days they will be with me, and then I'm moving to des Marronniers for my two "solo" nights before leaving for Sancerre. I think the trip will be fun but unfortunately the timing is the same as Rugby World Cup in Paris; I asked a question about this on another thread. Thanks for everyone's advice!
