Single man looking for best nightlife in Paris

Hi, I am curious to know the best bars to go out to in Paris. I will be spending 2 days there alone. Also, what are the best things to do during the day? Thanks, Jeff

A single man must visit Pigalle. This is where you will find what you seek.

I rode through Pigalle on the bus. It is the red light district. Some of the places have very descriptive names. I liked the Sexodrome best. Just sorry I didn't have time to stop and explore.

geez guys, we can give Jeffie better advice than that!! Several seasons ago, a fellow named Ron got the lowdown on how to do it in Paris. The effervescent and bountiful sources of Parisian wisdom on this board had the following advice for Ron, the man who just loved wimmin. Turn up on a street corner in Montmarte, in the vicinity of Pig Alley, clad in a pair tight fitting Wrangler Jeans, big belt buckle, shirtless, perhaps a little false hair on the chest if needed, waving a fistful of Yankee green, and a sixer of Bud. To complete the macho appearance, Ron was to be in cowboy boots, and wear a big Texas style Stetson, and a red bandanna, with a manly drool of tobacco juice. Then to attract attention he should burp or hiccup loudly. That should get him all the Parisian female attention he needs. I think Jeffie would get something if he clad himself thusly. Only, with the declining value of the dollar, I think a fistful of euro notes would be more in order. They are more colorful anyhow.

Avoid the Pigalle area. Sure, it's the "red light district", but the main activity there is to rip off the visitors, in any possible way. I'm not a party guy, so I can't really advise you, and anyway, I don't know your age and your tastes. Possibly check the area around the rue de la Roquette, near Bastille, which is the only "party area" where I sometines go. There are quite a lot of bars and some clubs there. Mostly catering for a young crowd, though.

Hi Jeff, I have lived in Paris and visited since then several times. often alone. I recommend the Buddah Bar. Very cool and good DJ's as long as you don't mind exotic dance beats. One of my favorite streets is Rue Saint Andre des Arts. It goes from Boulevard Saint michel to Saint Germaine. There are great shops and cafes there and some stay open late. I like the Cafe Latin -- good DJ's but this one closes early. There is a Cafe Mabillon in the area on Boulevard Saint Germaine which, if I remember correctly, stays open until the wee hours of the morning and gets really crowded. The fun thing to order is hot vanilla which you mix into steamed milk but I don't imagine you'd be interested. Guys in Paris do order it, though. The Bastille area is also a good tip but I believe Rue de Lapp might be better than rue de la roquette. Try both... Have a cab take you around to see the lights of the city. Very fun. Bateaux mouches, the boats that go up and down the Seine, are fun at night too. During the day, check out the Marais -- oldest part of Paris. Very charming. At the end is the Place des vosges - ancient and beautiful. I LOVE Gallerie Vivienne which is near the Palais Royale (also a good thing to see) which is where the Gaultier store is. It's just a beautiful enclosed area of shops -- beautifully tiled. Good food at A Priori The there -- get the coffee chocolate tart. Wonderful thick hot chocolate can be had on the Rud de Rivoli near the Concorde at Angelina's. Be sure to go on the ferris wheel for great views of the city. La Duree is great pastry place -- on Champs Elysees and also there are other locations. I love paris for the deserts. I am trying to research MY trip and here I am writing all this to you. I am on my way solo to the Amalfi coast of Italy. If you have any tips for me, please let me know. Otherwise, have fun! Best to avoid Pigalle. I used to have great Indian food there but don't remember the place. It's interesting during the day but don't go during the night unless you are really wanting to see a cabaret show (Crazy Horse) or something like that. Janet

I second the recommendation for Hotel Costes. Good music, great ambience, beautiful people...it is a lot of fun.
