Single Lady traveling to Rome
If anyone has any advice for single woman traveling to Rome for a week to study beauty & good Roman food, do let me know any recommendations for must-see sights & good, simple places to eat. I love history and art, jazz music, and I'm Italian-American but never been to Rome (!). Staying near Colosseum.

La Tecce,
I am so happy for you. You will have the time of your life. I did a TR under (theresa10) and there are some food recommendations. Have the most wonderful time. Need someone to carry your bags? ;) |
Hi Theresa, thanks a mil. I'll def. have a look at your recommendations. I'm sure I'll need a little time away from the relatives, too ;-) And, yes, please come carry my bag (I travel light so you won't have much to carry :-)

You didn't mention when you'd be going, but here's a link to RomaTurismo with their September calendar. You can sign up to receive the monthly calendar via e-mail.

My favorite cafe in Rome is called Anima Sapori. It is right off of Piaza Navona was really inexpensive and GREAT food and staff. I was the only tourist in the place which made it that much better.
Take Via D. Vetrina on the West side of Piaza Navona and once on the street it will be on your left hand side a couple blocks up. It's a must! I suggest the hot salami pizza with boiled egg...YUMMY! |
Thanks so much, will check out that cafe. I'm going in October 1 - 11, am wondering if anyone knows studio apartments good for 1 person in Rome for rent by the night?
|
Check out the Michaelangelo statue of Moses in S. Pietro in Vincoli (sp?) near your hotel, the Bernini statue of St. Teresa in Santa Maria della Vittoria, the ceiling by Andrea Pozzo in Sant' Ignazio, and the many churches (San Luigi dei Francesi, Santa Maria del Popolo, Sant'Agostino) with paintings by Caravaggio. The amazing thing is that they're all free.

Hi La Tecce,
You'll love Rome! Many Roman Trattoria are "family" style meaning you may share the table with others. One of our favorites is Da Francesco, in the Via Della Pace neighborhood, just west of the Piazza Navona. This is a good neighborhood for dinner time full of young professional types. Da Francesco is easy. There are others around there. This neighborhood is also good for studying beauty. Two steets, Via dei Coronari and Via del Governo Vecchio are hip shopping streets versus Via dei Condotti, which is all the famous Italian brands. We have some video of these spots on our website. We know musicians in Rome who can point you in the right direction to jazz clubs too. If interested in a list of clubs, shoot us an email and we'll send some clubbing spots back from Rome. With regard to apartment - do you need it next week, October 1? Ciao. |
La Tecce, I have used the following often; even though it is on the Via Del Corso, it is quiet and very clean. A three night minimum is required. Nice owner, and his assistant is usually there if you need help.

I rented one of the Cappellari studios from realrome.com and had a great experience. They have a three-night minimum I believe.
Have fun! |
Thanks, bfrac! :-d
La Tecce, I've spent a lot of time in Rome by myself. I second the recommendation of Da Francesco, it's on Piazza Fico. For a lot more information, including some places that aren't on most people's list, here are the trip reports bfrac mentioned: http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34687434 http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34780400 http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34922204 http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=35034084 http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=35111784 http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=35146132 Enjoy! |
Maybe I should have mentioned that although I've been to Rome on each trip, the 2nd, 3rd and 5th trips were all Rome.

Ciao Motorino,
Yes, I'll be heading off next week, Oct. 1, it would be great to get any contacts for jazz festivals & clubs and cabaret in Rome. Thanks a mil, Maria - La Tecce |
Cheers sjj,
Fab suggestions, will check them out. Ciao! La Tecce Maria |
Ciao Motorino,
Yes, I'd be looking for a cheap studio apartment for Oct. 1 - 4 and then again Oct. 7 - 11. |
Longboatkey,
I tried that website for apartments, relaisrome, but there are no prices listed that I could see? |
|
HeartofTheSouth,
Great site for apartments that rentalinrome, impressive. Thanks so much for the tip! :-) |
Do your research and follow the great advice of your fellow posters here online. I don't typically recommend this, but if I were going solo, I'd need a few popcorn references for the trip. I might even take them with me on a personal DVD player to watch while there if I'm in the mood for a late-night movie.
You should really watch "Roman Holiday" before you go! There's the 1953 one with Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn and then there's the other one... The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone from 2003. It's a little more racy with Helen Mirren, Anne Bancroft and Brian Dennehey, I think. Then, if you haven't seen it, go ahead and watch or take Under the Tuscan Sun. Be Adventurous and Safe. Have fun! |
