Single female staying in Montparnasse near Raspail - is it safe?

Hi

I'm travelling to Paris from the last week in November for a month to experience life in Paris. I have some time between jobs so I'm taking this opportunity to live the parisian dream.

I have a budget of 1500 euro for accommodation and I'm looking at booking a studio in Montparnasse near Raspail metro. My big question is is this a safe area to be walking home at night? I don't plan on being out very late but I want to stay somewhere that I feel safe walking home in the dark.

I have looked at a lot of apartments online but all the nice ones seem to be really expensive. This one looks nice and they have agreed to rent it to me for 1500 euro. Would people recommend that I go for it? Any other advice/suggestions?

Thanks a mill for taking the time to read this.

PD

Yes it's perfectly safe. I stayed at 212 Blvd. Raspail, my last trip to Paris. We were close to Edgar Quinet. I loved that area. There is an art market on Edgar Quinet on Sundays, and I believe another market..food, and other stuff (I bought a scarf) on Blvd. Raspail as I recall. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

You are close to several metros, to the Montparnasse station, walkable to Blvd. St. Germaine and the river and it will be a great neighborhood for a long term stay.

I am very jealous indeed. Have a wonderful time.

I stayed not far from there in May 2010, and felt totally safe. Only thing is in May it got darker much later than it will in November. But it is a really nice area...

Enjoy your full month in Paris!

We've stayed twice in the area of the intersection of Montparnasse and Blvd Raspail (closer to the Vavin Metro stop). Love the area and I would feel totally comfortable staying alone in that area.

It's an excellent safe area, just one of many throughout Paris.
