Simple pleasures
Just one quick look around this forum and anyone can see the trouble, time, effort and money spent in search of the sometimes ellusive and other times plentiful simple pleasure we all crave.
What is it you seek in your travels? thereyet |
The grand answer is myself. I want what I see and do and taste to help me better know our world, humankind and ultimately myself. And I think that's the simple answer, too.
It sounds a bit pompous, but I think it's just what happens with a lifetime. It's possible to make that search happen right at home - in fact, I like the part that happens close to home, too. But once you get that curiosity about what's out there, and the excitement of discovery, you want that too. Socrates said, "The unexamined life is not with living." One could counter, "The unlived life is not worth examining." Whether it is something NEW that we seek, or in fact an undiscovered part of ourselves, the gained insight and perspective makes the continuing examination of self and of the world genuinely thrilling. (This response shows what happens when you poke your hear into "just one more" post before going to bed ...) |
What I seek is knowledge that I might some day use to help someone else, thus completing a connection that weaves use all together. Anything that demonstrates that we are all one brings me pleasure and satisfaction. thereyet

Travel not just to see the world, but understand your place in it.

Same as Worldinabag - but more specifically being able to ride a bus: we can't do that here, ride in a train: ditto, sit at a cafe on a sidewalk:we don't have many & none in my town at any rate, have access to fabulous artworks, museums, gardens that take you breath away...........etc.

To get away from a vacation place where I spend most of the year to have an entirely different experience.
To get away from phones, demands, "have tos" & responsibilities. To be able to stimulate my remaining brain cells which can get lazy from too much sun & swaying palms. |
