Simple hotels in Venice, Positano, Rome
I will be visting Venice, Positano (and possible Ravello also) and Rome in September. It seems that the decor in many of the places is pretty over the top! Can anyone recommend simply decorated accomodations in any of these three areas? So far I am considering Ca' Pisani in Venice, Villa Rosa in Positano and/or Hotel Parsifol in Ravello, but I would welcome some other suggestions. We would prefer not to spend more than $200/night, but would spend as much as $300/night if we really liked the place. A friendly, helpful staff and good location are both important to us since this will be our first trip to Italy.

AL GAMBERO on Calle dei Fabbri in Venice is a nice hotel with recently remodeled rooms. Located halfway between Rialto and St Marks. We stayed there in Oct 1999 and will use again on next trip to Venice.

Hi,
We stayed at the Poseidon two years ago and really loved it. It is simply decorated, and offers lovely views from the rooms and restaurant terrace. The staff and food are out of this world. Maybe you know this already, but the Poseidon does have a garage available for guests' cars. Have a wonderful time!

Hi Travel3773,
I posted extensive notes on hotels, restaurants, etc in my trip write-up. It sounds like you would be happy at L'Ancora - the location is great (next to Le Sirenuse) and you can walk down into Positano from there, and walk back up with not much problem. The Poseidon is pretty far up the hill in Positano, so it is not as convenient to shopping and restaurants, plus I thought that L'Ancora was classier and quieter. Poseidon was nice, but it looked more at home in Monte Carlo.
You can find my write-up if you put in "kiki" into the search box. I listed a ton of different shopping stores that you won't read about elsewhere, and good info on touring.
Have a great time!
