Hi my family and I, total of 4 people will be arriving Pisa. We will be visiting Lucca, Florence and Venice. Since we will be there for about 1 week, we are thinking to get ourselves simcard so that we can use google map to navigate. May I know which telecommunication company is good for data plan for visitors and where can I buy it?

Both TIM and Vodafone have good plans for visitors. I think TIM's has somewhat better features.

However, you don't need data services to use GPS for driving. You can download in advance the maps for the areas you're visiting. GPS itself doesn't use data. Then keep data services turned off and GPS turned on. You'll get turn-by-turn driving directions if you're using maps previously downloaded. For walking, you can see your current position and your destination, but you won't get the turn-by-turn directions.

Which brings up another point, if you're thinking of driving. The best way to visit these places is by train.
