SIM card for southern Spain
We will be spending 12 days in Andalucia next month and want to get a local SIM card on arrival at Sevilla. Can we pick this up at the airport? If not, we will be proceeding immediately to Ronda, I suppose there should be a shop at the bus station, isn't it?
I've heard both Vodafone and Movistar have good coverage, we'll need some amount of data plus some local calls. Which provider would you suggest, anything I need to watch out for, any dos and don'ts? Thanks in advance for your suggestions! |
Vodafone has a tourist package. It's not the cheapest but it's likely got everything you might want.
Is your phone unlocked? Does it have EU frequencies? I guess more importantly for 4G these days. Offers don't tend to include SMS anymore. That's about it for things to watch. https://www.vodafone.es/c/particular...one-traveller/ |
Thanks a lot Traveler_Nick, the Vodafone tourist package sounds good and not too expensive at €20.
We will have an unlocked phone which we’ve previously used in Europe, though I need to check if it’s 4G enabled. Won’t a 3G phone work as well? Any idea about a phone kiosk at Sevilla airport? In France there are Relay stores everywhere and it was super easy to get the SIM and later top up credit. Thanks again, appreciate your help. |
3G phone would work but limit your speed.
No idea about the airport. https://tiendas.vodafone.es/search?q...86&lon=-5.9954 That's a list of shops from the website. |
Thanks again Traveler_Nick, very kind of you.

There is likely to be phone kiosk at airport. We got our SIM from movie star in a store near where we are staying in Triana in Seville. Many movies tar and vodaphone stores in city, on both sides of river from what we’ve see.

BTW, any particular reason for choosing Movistar over Vodafone, what kind of a plan did you get? |
Hi- On the vodaphone web site, it says "Tariff will be automatically renewed after 4 weeks" right underneath the 20Euro/mth part.
So you have to make arrangements to cancel when your vacation is over, or the charges re-occur? Thanks |
It only renews if there is credit on the SIM. The advantage of it renewing is if you're on a long multi country trip. Top up the SIM before you leave Spain and it'll automatically renew.
