Silly Question
 

We will be in Zurich for a layover on Wednesday December 27 (I had originally posted Thursday December 28, but I was mistaken).

I read that there is a Farmers Market in the train station on Wednesdays that I would like to go to.

Now for my silly question...I would like to try some cheese at the market, if there is some. Do I need to worry if the cheese is pasteurized or not?

re pasturization- The first thing I do when I land in Europe is buy raw milk cheese! (see a recent thread on French food). You will be spoiled and will never again enjoy the pasturized milk cheeses as much. I might avoid only if I were pregnant or immunosuppressed.

Unless you're pregnant or immunosuppressed as mentioned above, enjoy the cheese with wild abandon. A zillion Swiss citizens eat unpasteurized cheese every day without fear!

There was a recent article in the NY Times about drinking wine while pregnant. The author drank wine occasionally, and her docotr did not try to dissuade her. She pointed out that in France, wine is accepted as is raw mild cheese, but pregnant women are warned about eating raw vegetables and salad. Each country has its own food restrictions, but it appears that none might necessarily apply to occasional drinkers and moderate eaters.

It's exactly the opposite : in France pregnant women are told to stay clear from raw milk and are tested for toxoplasmosis immunity before being allowed uncomplety washed / unbleached / unpealed vegetables and salad (but over 85% of the french women are immunized - to compare with 25% in the USA)

I meant raw milk cheese. Is that the same as raw milk?
