Silk 'Map Scarves'
 

I just heard about this from a travel list I belong to -- beautiful maps of London and Paris on silk scarves, so if you get lost you have a map right there around your neck! I have a map/scarf of Florence I bought in 1988 and one of Siena I bought 2 years ago. I actually have a Paris metro map scarf also, but it is not really legible.

A pedant would like to remind youngsters out there that such a concept was used in WWII by the military: large hankie size squares of silk were printed with maps of I think both occupied countries as well as smaller areas, allowing troops to carry them easily to id. where they were if dropped by parachute or otherwise. I hope a vet will kindly elaborate.

As someone privileged to have received an advanced London map from the Map Scarves people (a ‘review copy’ – I’m a journalist), I can tell you that they have no connection at all with the microsoie/microsilk scarves.<BR>The London and Paris Map Scarves ones are real, usable maps on quality silk scarves, 34” square, beautiful colours etc. The microsoie/microsilk scarves are NOT AT ALL of the same quality (and they are not paying me to say that!)<BR>The Map Scarves website – www.mapscarves.com – will go live at the end of this week I think – I’ll post when I hear from them.<BR>I've been doing some research for a story and yes, the poster above is quite right about the WWII scarves. I was given one of those microsoie maps and it is horrible! Really poor printing quality and stiff fabric. I wonder of the mapscarves ones are better? At least they are a proper size (microsoie is only about 20")

Has anyone bought/seen one of these mapscarves.com scarves? Are they as nice as they look on the website? (I'm thinking of them as Christmas gifts!!)

i bought one, very small from canada after seeing it advertised in the NY Times. This map was of Provence and was of no help. I gave to a friend's dog in Haute Provence, though this dog knows his way home.
