Sigmaringen Castle - Germany
 

We will be travelling by train from Triburg to Ulm and would like to visit one of the many little towns along the way to break up the 3 hour trip.

Right now we are looking at Sigmaringen, since it is about midway. Can anyone give me any information about the town of Sigmaringen and the castle along the Danube? We went to their website, but unfortunately, it was only in German and we are linguistically challenged Americans (blame our school system). Also, when I link onto their castle link, it seems to come up with the Hohenzollern Castle, which is further north (unfortunately).

Or, would one of the other towns along the line be of more interest. Our interests include old things (the older, the better), history, churches, small/odd museums (perhaps the Broom Museum in Ehingen?). Other towns that the train stops at would include Donaueschingen - Geisingen - Immendingen - Tuttlingen - Beuron - Sigmaringen - Mengen - Herbertingen - Munderkingen - Ehingen - Schelklingen - Blaubeuren.

Can anyone help us with this area? Thanks...and Peace.

Interesting! When I was doing my research on how to get to Hohenzollern castle I kept having the problem of
Google bringing this castle in Sigmaringen up instead. Anyway, we finally made it to Hohenzollern (actually they are both owned by that family) but here are some English-language links to the one you are interested in:

unfortunatly a lot of people dont know how to work with the www, and so do those guys from the Castle Sigmaringen. They have an english button on their site, but it dont work.
Also they dont named the castle like it is named in every map and book (Sigmaringer Schloss), they named it after the guys that lived their ages ago (Hohenzollern), This is what confuses You. Here You find pics and other infos about the castle: http://www.hohenzollern.com/index.html

Other interessting places on Your way:
Beuron, one of the most famous baroque monastiers in this area.
Blaubeuren: nice place with also a nice and importand old monsatier and a famous spring (Blautopf). Guess these and Sigmaringen will be the most interessting places on that route.

artstuff- Sigmaringen would be an ideal place to breakup your trip from Triberg to Ulm. The castle is located right in town on the Danube and only a short walk from the train station. It is a delightful and picturesque castle with tours available. You could have lunch in town in one of the many cafes before continuing on to Ulm. Trains run about every hour to Ulm. All in all, an easy, pleasant, and scenic stop over!

We checked out the websites that were recommended and it sounds like stopping in Sigmaringen will be a nice way to stretch our legs on our journey (via rail) from the Black Forest to Ulm.

Has anyone out there been to Sigmaringen, and could give us ideas on where to eat? How long would it take to tour the castle? We're looking at 2-4 hours layover. Is there a luggage locker at the rail station?

Any info would be greatly appreciated....Peace.

Sigmaringen is not too big and the castle is very close to the station (guess You can walk in about 5 - 8 minutes). About lockers? I dont know, normaly there has to be ...
