Sightseeing Advice in SANTORINI

Would love some tips/advice for my parents trip to Santorini.

They are staying in Oia in June for 2 nights.
I've done a lot of research already and have booked them in Volcano Villas, and have gotten great restaurant recommendations. (Thank you everyone!!)

They would like to visit a winery and do a possible boat sightseeing / excursion around the island.

Other than just soaking it all in by exploring Oia and Fira, are there any special activities that would you recommend?

They are not really interested in hanging out at the beach.

Any advice is VERY appreciated!!

Here's a link that might help. Oia actually has its own winery, Sigalas, and if I remember correctly it's not far from the Volcano's Villas.

Thanks, Brotherleelove.
that's a really useful website.
It's also helpful to know that the winery is right by volcano villas. Perhaps the staff there can direct my parents and give them info.

Has anyone done a boat excursion?

Hi

Yes we did the boat excursion to the active volcano across the caldera. OK it's hardly spewing molten lava but you do see puffs of sulphur smoke. There is no shade there and the terrain is undulating and rocky. Take good walking shoes and plenty of water. You also get to swim in the sulphur pool. If your parents are up to it I found it a fun excursion.

Hi Worldinabag,
Hope you don't mind a few more questions...

How did you find out about the boat excursion? From your hotel?
How long was it?
How much did it cost?

tHanks so much!

The boat excursion you are thinking about is in every travel brochure in every hotel on the island. Your hotel will have the information.

Hi Dina

This is going back in 2003 so details are fading in our memories! The trip was a half day trip. It wasn't very much, maybe around 10 or 12 euros each. We found it from either a brochure from our hotel or the Tourist Bureau in Fira.

By the way we took in the Akrotiri site which was very interesting. Hopefully they would have reopened it (there was an accident awhile back) by the time your parents get there.

Hope this helps.

Just go see Markos at Karvounis Tours in Oia. His office is next to the big church and the main square. He can sell you a ticket for the excursion. They'll pick you up below Oia at Amoudi Beach.

Thanks, everyone, for the great information!
