Sifnos, Greece Medical Center
 

I am planning on a week in Sifnos this summer but have severe allergies. Is the Medical Center equipped to manage anaphylaxis? Any idea how I can find out? Thanks for any help.

You could try contacting them to ask. We went to the hospital on Santorini, admittedly years ago, and although the doctor was great (and spoke fluent English) the facilities and equipment shocked us. It was like something a hundred years ago. Incredibly cheap, for hospital and pharmacy.

I know someone who has severe allergies and they always travel with an epipen. Do you travel with one yourself?

I would not rely on:
a) getting to a clinic, period.
b) them being open when you get there. Are they open 24x7?
c) being able to quickly dianose you. The wait time at my local ER here in the US can be hours.
d) having epinephrine on hand... I don't see why 1st reponders and/or the med center wouldn't have it considering it's standard 1st line treatment

When you say you have severe allergies, what kinds of allergies are we talking about? Also, if you have severe allergies how come you don’t carry an epipen? I’ve got asthma so I always carry my inhaler with me and have them all over the place. Same with my mold allergy, which exacerbates my rhinosinusitus, so I carry an epipen and take it with me everywhere. Luckily I’ve only had to use it once but I’d never imagine going to a foreign country and not having it with me. So, get an epipen and this way you won’t have to worry about needing the clinic in Sifnos, which, by the way, is a very lovely island, full of great friendly people, excellent food, over 100 kilometers of hiking paths.
