Sifnos - Elies Resort?
 

We will be on our honeymoon mid-September and are planning on spending 3 days in Sifnos. We've been looking at the Elies Resort because we like the idea that we can take a yoga class or even attend a pottery class. But, at the same time we are concerned that Vathi is too far from Apollonia (we do not want to rent a car, but would instead rent bicycles).

The reviews I've seen on the resort are mixed. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

We spent a week on Sifnos four years ago. Didn't stay at Elies but saw it from the beach. It certainly looked very nice. The beach at Vathi was our favorite on Sifnos. If your concern with renting a car is safety and road conditions, don't worry much about Sifnos. It's very small, the roads are good and it's relatively flat. It's well worth renting as with only 3 days you can see most of the island.

angeliki - where did you stay in Sifnos? What did you do on the island?

Friends of ours have a home on Sifnos and we were given the use of it, along with a car they keep on the island. I can't help with any hotel recommendations because of this. We are beach people and spend the greater part of the day there. We travelled to most all the beaches on Sifnos and Vathi was our favorite. I think, and you're probably aware of this, that there is very little night life or restaurants in Vathi. You really have to make some arrangements to get into Appolonia.

If your main reason for choosing the Elies resort is the opportunity of taking a yoga or pottery class, you should certainly check in advance that these classes will be available in mid-September. Activities like these usually take place in high season - in Sifnos that would probably be July-August. Sifnos has a very short season -by mid September the bus service will be reduced and many restaurants will have closed, especially in the smaller beach villages. Staying in or near Apollonia would probably be a better choice for evening activities: you can certainly hire bikes or scooters for exploring the island and visiting beaches during the day.
