Sienna & Sorrento
We will be spending 6 nights in Sorrento (Villa Oriana( & 6 nights in Sienna (Villa Lecchi) with plans to day trip from both.
questions:
1.Comments (or recommended substitutes) on hotels.
2.Suggested day trips? Restaurants?
3.Plan to have car in Sienna;pick it up in Sorrento and drive or train to Sienna?
Thanks to all; I'm not sure this board is active (I'm first time poster);will email also.
Thanks to all.

Hi JL,
In order to help you with your searches, please note that there is only 1 "n" in Siena.
I would pick up the car in Sorrento and drive to Siena.
You might want to look up Siena and Sorrento and Amalfi Coast under "Destinations" and in the "Search this Forum" box.

Have a nice visit.

Suggested daytrips: (all obvious I'm afraid)
Sorrento: Pompeii, Ascent of Vesuvius + Herculaneum in the afternoon (Maybe overkill if not that interested in history and you have already been to Pompeii), Naples - The national archaelogical museum is excellent, but just walking along Spacconapoli is an experience. Naples does have a reputation for petty crime, but if you are sensible, then it should be fine - I have always felt very safe in Naples.
The above 3 trips are all possible using the circumvesuviana railway.
Capri by ferry.
The Amalfi coast drive by bus. Stop off at Positano, Amalfi - get a bus from Amalfi to Ravello.
Siena - There is enough here to keep you busy for several days, but outside trps would include the towns of Montalcino, Montepulciano, Volterra and San Gimignano. Parking in Siena is very expensive (I saw car parks with tariffs of €20 a day). Parking inside the walls is all but impossible without a residence permit.
The only restaurant I ate at in Siena was Taverna san Giuseppe (<http://www.tavernasangiuseppe.it/index-eng.htm>)
the food was excellent. Other people with whom I studied recommended the set menu at Cane e Gatto in the street of the same name - they said it was excellent although not cheap.
