I too am interested, although I don't have an answer.
Laarista, have you thought of Arezzo for the Sunday in March? It is the day of the monthly antiques fair, and it is a very easy and direct one hour train ride from Florence. I love Arezzo, and lots of things are open on the Sunday of the fair. You could reserve to see the Piero della Francesca frescoes and the church of San Francesco. Amazing.

I might be there, too. We went last year, and felt that we would like to go back. If it is a nice day, I think we might go.
Arezzo has all kinds of great little food shops open during the fair, and the fair itself has a really wide variety of merchandise at all price levels. I do think it would only be fun in clear weather, but I highly recommend it.
In fact, I fell in love with Arezzo. It seemed to me to have a distinctive and friendly atmosphere; it was very historic, with great shops, food and art. What more could I want?

hi tuscan,
Yes, I just went to the Arezzo website and the antique fair will be on that first Sunday so I will go there on sunday and then to Siena on Monday. I'm going to base myself in Florence. I'm psyched, thanks again for the suggestion.

Nobody has answered your question about Siena on a Sunday or Monday - so I'll take a stab. I have never been to Siena on a Sunday or Monday, so my infornation is based on visits to other similar cities on Sundays and Mondays and info from our closest friends who live in San Quirico - just 45 mins south of Siena
Most stores will be closed on Sunday, and many on Monday morning also. Some more will open up in the afternoon on Monday - but afternoon starts around 3:00pm.
Many stores were closed in Perugia when we were there on a Monday morning - same with Cortona.
I can't remember if the Arezzo antiques fair is March 5th or March 26th - can someone verify??

Hi Stu
Thanks for the attempted answer.I looked up the antique fair and it is first weekend of every month so tht would put it on the 5th of March which works out perfect for me and gives me something to do on Sunday. I'll try Siena monday afternoon.

Glad it works for you. Our friends furnished much of their house with things they bought there. I asked them the question about when the market is - and here is her reply:
The market's determination is based on the first Sunday of the month. Then it is also on the Saturday before. So in March 2006 it would be the 4th and 5th. Oct. 2006 would be Sept 30 and Oct.1. ciao, Georgia
