Siena - Hotel suggestions
 

Will be in Siena for two nights in September. Need a great, yet reasonably priced place to stay in the city (near the campi pref.). Any gems out there?

In 1999, we stayed for three nights at the Hotel Duomo and were very pleased, especially with the wonderful view of the Duomo from our window.

On our floor there was a nice little terrace overlooking the rooftops, where we had a picnic lunch one day, and wine every evening. It's just up the street from the Campo. Maybe somebody has some more recent information.

I think I remember reading here something about a new fabulous and well-located hotel in Siena. Can't remember the name, but you should be able to find it.

We were back in Siena last winter for a day, and wished with all our hearts that we were staying there instead of in Florence!

By the way, the new issue of National Geographic Traveler has a nice article about Siena as its cover story.

We thought the reasonably-priced (for us, that meant under 100 euros for double) Locanda Garibaldi was a real gem, and it's only about a 1/2 block from the south side of Il Campo, on Via Giovanni Dupre. The only caveat is that Marcello does not take reservations more than a few days in advance. I imagine you want to, and will, make reservations ahead of time but, if for some reason you do not, you might keep in mind as an option.

We also stayed at the Palazzo Ravizza and would stay there again. The restaurant is a real plus. There are comments about it in the Fodor's Rants and Raves section.

Another recommendation for Palazzo Ravizza. Stayed there for three nights in late May and we were happy even though we had a street side room. We did miss the view from the room, but it was not as noisy as others have said....and the room was quite large. Air conditioning did not appear to be working, but fortunately it was not that hot in May. Hopefully it is working better now. Included parking in lot just behind/below is a real plus if you have a car with you.

we also just stayed at palazzo ravizza and it was the best place we stayed in italy. not sure if it would qualify as "reasonably priced" though. depends on how you define it.

We stayed in the Hotel Duomo in May of '01; our room was ok and did not have a view, but the location was great. They were filling up for Oct. at that time, they told me, so I would doubt if you could get an reservation for Sept., at this point. But who knows, perhaps a cancellation.

How about Piccolo Hotel Oliveta? I was looking for a location just out side the center of Siena.

How about the Grand Hotel Continental in Siena? Has anyone stayed here? I believe it's fairly new....
