Barcelona at night? Single female...

Hi

I will be in Barcelona the end of Oct for a week. Single female 50's. I'll be staying in Eixample neighborhood. I would greatly appreciate suggestions on what to do in the evening or what not to do!

Thanks so much!!

Seat in one of the cafes along the beautiful Rambla de
Catalunya

Mingle with crowds in El Born.

If interested , see a performance at the Opera.

I would stay on crowded streets.Be careful -if in doubt take a taxi!
I feel much safer in Madrid and walk around alone at all hours of the night/day but not so in Barcelona.

We have visited Barcelona eight times...I was alone four of those times..

Never had a problem taking metro at night( before midnight), but I stayed close to
P.de Gracia .

Did not like Ramblas south of Ferran (and the narrow streets of
BG and Raval) later at night.
Like most cities, it depends of the area. I feel safe in Madrid, but would avoid some parts and metro station there too.

You've got some great suggestions.

I'll add: Many upscale cafes, bars, restaurants and clubs in local feel and friendly Carrer Aribau in the Eixample. Charlot Cafe is one of many places around here, both for breakfast, a meal and late into the night: http://www.timeout.com/barcelona/res...s/charlot-cafe

I went to Barcelona as a solo female traveler - so much to see and do. I stayed in a hostel and met fellow travelers but I think there's plenty of areas you can go on your own.

I posted a trip report here a few months ago:
http://www.fodors.com/community/euro...r-in-spain.cfm

I included photos, tips, and talked about the scams I've heard about. Barcelona is definitely safe for solo female travelers. You just have to be aware of your surroundings.

Enjoy!

Magic Fountain is limited to nonexistent in October. Google for when it operates, if at all.

Avoid the Raval.
